Here comes the rain
While water is a particularly valuable and often scarce resource on Gotland, Sibbjäns is likely to be situated on land that was once part of Viking territory and evidence suggests a significant water source existed here even then.
Recognizing the value of water, we at Sibbjäns have invested in sustainable water management. Instead of allowing this precious water to flow out to sea, we collect it in natural and constructed ponds.
To maximize our water usage, a network of pipes connects all the farm's rooftops. This system captures all rainwater, directing it to our ponds. These ponds not only help replenish the groundwater but also serve as our irrigation source.
Our hotel rooms are equipped with water-efficient Orbital showers, allowing our guests to enjoy longer showers with high pressure while helping us conserve our shared water resources.. Similarly, we also use rainwater for flushing our toilets.
Our work with water is an ongoing process, and after we open, we plan to continue with more projects, such as implementing a water purification system from Alnarp, with the aim of further enhancing our water practices.
