Sibbjäns

Gardens at Sibbjäns

Sibbjäns encompasses pastures, meadows, shrubbery, leafy arbors, forest, and farmland, a typical part of the Gotland landscape, framed by traditional limestone walls. Here, the lime-rich soil gives life to the island's special trees and bushes, such as pine, juniper, whitebeam, rowan, willow, wayfarer, alder buckthorn and blackthorn.

Around Sibbjans, we've planted vegetation that is common here on Gotland. Along our paths and all around, you'll find plants that thrive near fields, beaches and on the alvar grasslands. The closer you get to the farm, the more of the old cultivated plants you'll see.

Peter Korn

Meadow-like plantings lead you to a perennial border that welcomes you to our restaurant. This border is designed by Peter Korn, a garden designer renowned for his innovative and drought-tolerant plantings in challenging environments, as well as his extensive knowledge of perennials and how to create beautiful and long-lasting displays. These drought-tolerant plants in sand and gravel underscore our respect for the island's resources.

At the restaurant's outdoor bar, roses and clematis twine and climb and the plantings create a calm and inviting atmosphere with their soft hues.

In front of the hotel, the recreated Gotland Garden welcomes you, a place that reflects generations of gardening passion. Here, heritage plants from old Gotland farms flourish – fruit trees, roses, lilac, and mock-orange – alongside classics like peonies, columbine, and bleeding heart.

On the patio behind the hotel, a majestic tree casts beautiful shadows across the tables, while climbing plants like white wisteria and potted hydrangeas, we hope, evoke a feeling that invites lingering into the long evening.

Beyond the patio, a lush oasis awaits by our natural pool. Here, a diversity of plants thrives in warm colors, with exciting trees and shrubs from different parts of the world. At the edges, the cultivated smoothly transitions into the wild.

A vision beyond beauty

Our vision for Sibbjans extends further. We continuously work to create avenues, natural edges for wildlife, plantings by ponds, and eco-paths through meadows and forests. Our goal is to actively contribute to increased biodiversity and a positive climate development. Through tree planting and smart solutions for water and recycling, we work with carbon sequestration and carbon sinks.
